Iran war briefing: Trump insists peace talks have not stalled amid fresh strikes by Tehran and US

  • The US military reported that Iranian missiles fired towards Kuwait and Bahrain either failed or were intercepted.
  • In response, the US launched strikes on an Iranian military ground control station located on Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Two missiles targeting Kuwait reportedly broke apart en route, while US and Bahraini forces intercepted those aimed at Bahrain.
  • Meanwhile, Donald Trump refuted suggestions that peace talks between the US and Iran had stopped, asserting that communication has been continuous.
  • Trump also stated he had told Tehran it was “time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal,” referencing 47 years of unresolved issues.
  • Elsewhere, Rubio said a UK-France mission to secure the post-war Strait of Hormuz was “a catch-22”. The top diplomat questioned the need for naval escorts “if no one’s shooting”, but acknowledged it could provide initial reassurance to shipping.
