Iran wedding celebration reportedly hit by US airstrike as five killed

A home in the southern Iranian city of Kuhestak was hit by a US airstrike while a wedding celebration was reportedly taking place inside.

Iranian officials said the house was hosting the wedding on Tuesday (1 September) when it was struck, killing five people and leaving dozens wounded, according to local officials.

Footage released by the Iranian Red Crescent showed the rubble of the home following the strike.

The US military carried out strikes on targets in Iran on Tuesday, prompting Tehran to respond with missiles and drones against sites across the region.

US Central Command said the strikes came in response to attempts by Iran to attack commercial ships and American forces in the Middle East.
