THE Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has achieved a historic milestone by collecting RM203.991 billion in taxes for the year 2025, marking the highest figure in the nation's history.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the achievement as extraordinary, noting that the collection represents a significant increase of 19.186 billion Ringgit, or 10.38 per cent, compared to the previous year.
In a speech read out by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof at the 30th HASiL Day celebration in 2026, Anwar emphasised that this robust revenue performance has allowed the government to address long-standing financial obligations.
He confirmed that the government has allocated an additional RM11.4 billion in tax refund funds to settle outstanding payments for corporate taxpayers, ensuring past commitments are resolved in a more organised and transparent manner.
The Prime Minister maintained that a superior taxation system is defined not only by its efficiency in collection but also by its commitment to justice and equity.
He noted that taxes are more than a legal obligation; they represent a shared trust that enables the state to fund essential services such as education, healthcare, social protection, and general development.
Addressing the challenges of an uncertain global landscape, Anwar urgedt the IRB to further enhance its analytical capabilities and digital infrastructure.
He called for the empowerment of artificial intelligence and advanced technology to improve efficiency, reduce revenue leakage, and simplify the compliance process for the public.
Anwar stressed that the ultimate objective is not merely the pursuit of higher revenue, but the creation of a taxation system that is fairer, more transparent, and trusted by the people.
