IRB Slaps GISBH with Penalties
The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has clarified that GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) and its subsidiaries had not paid their taxes but were subject to over 60 audits, resulting in compound fines and tax penalties, all of which have been settled. This action follows reports that GISBH has consistently failed to pay taxes across its multiple entities, sparking widespread public concern.
According to a recent IRB statement, the audits cover several assessment years, during which both companies and individuals linked to GISBH were found non-compliant. Penalties and compound fines were levied on those involved, with the IRB confirming that these fines have been paid. The board emphasized that no special treatment was given to GISBH or its subsidiaries, underscoring the impartiality and professionalism of its tax enforcement efforts.
“Every tax compliance matter has been handled professionally. GISBH and the related companies are treated no differently from other entities. Our audits ensure that all individuals and companies fulfill their tax obligations,” the IRB statement read.
Zakat Scandal: GISBH Linked to Over 20 Companies, None Paid Tithes
In a parallel controversy, the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has revealed that GISBH and its subsidiaries have failed to meet their religious obligations, with no zakat (tithe) payments made despite operating over 20 companies, as reported by Bernama. LZS Head of Collection Division, Mohd Fikri Naim Harun, confirmed that the board has not received any financial information from GISBH that would allow it to assess the amount of zakat owed.
"With over 20 GISBH-linked companies in our records, yet none have made any contributions to LZS. Unfortunately, without details about their assets and liabilities, we cannot determine the exact amount of zakat they are required to pay,” Mohd Fikri Naim stated at the Selangor Tithe Carnival 2024.
When asked about potential legal repercussions, Mohd Fikri Naim pointed out that the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003 provides for imprisonment and fines for individuals or companies that intentionally fail to pay zakat. However, no formal legal actions have been initiated against GISBH for non-payment at this time.
'Op Global' Exposes GISBH’s Dark Side: Child Exploitation Allegations
The latest development in GISBH’s troubles comes in the form of ‘Op Global,’ a nationwide police operation targeting 20 charity homes linked to the company. The raid, conducted on September 11, uncovered disturbing allegations of child exploitation and indoctrination within the homes. A total of 402 residents were rescued, and 171 individuals, aged between 17 and 64, were taken into custody.
This series of legal, financial, and moral scandals has thrust GISBH into the spotlight, raising questions about its ethical practices and compliance with both state laws and religious obligations. As investigations continue, the company faces mounting pressure to address its financial mismanagement and allegations of misconduct.
The confluence of tax evasion, zakat non-payment, and child exploitation charges suggests that GISBH’s problems may run deeper than previously thought.
