As the much-awaited Chinese New Year 2025 approaches, Malaysia's Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has rolled out a key initiative to ensure that families can celebrate without financial stress. The Skim Harga Maksimum Musim Perayaan (SHMMP) – or Maximum Price Scheme for Festive Season – is designed to regulate the prices of essential items during this festive period, running from January 25 to February 2. This scheme aims to make key ingredients more affordable, ranging from fresh produce and seafood to popular pork-related products. With the goal of preventing price hikes and ensuring fairness, the SHMMP offers peace of mind to consumers as they prepare for their reunion dinners and other CNY celebrations. Let’s take a closer look at what’s included in the 2025 price control list.

The scheme covers 16 key items, including fresh produce, seafood, and even pork-related products.

Key Highlights of SHMMP for Chinese New Year 2025:

  • Additional Items for Peninsular Malaysia: In addition to regular items, the SHMMP will control the prices of red chilies, large yellow onions, imported red onions, and short cabbage (also known as Japanese cabbage).
  • Additional Items for Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan: For these regions, the scheme will also apply to chicken wings.
  • Core Items Covered in the Scheme: Other essential items include white pomfret (200-400 grams), white prawns (41-60 per kilogram), imported round cabbage (from Indonesia and China), imported potatoes (from China), garlic (from China), old ginger (imported), carrots, white radish, and pork-related products (live pigs, pork belly, and mixed-fat pork).

16 types of goods have been gazetted under the Maximum Price Scheme for this festive season. The list of items is as follows:

  1. Red Chilies
  2. Large Onions
  3. Imported Large Red Onions
  4. Short Cabbage
  5. Chicken Wings
  6. White Pomfret
  7. White Prawns
  8. Imported Round Cabbage

Ensuring Fair Prices and Compliance

The KPDN has emphasized that enforcement officers will be monitoring markets to ensure compliance with the price controls, ensuring that traders adhere to the set guidelines. This initiative aims to prevent profiteering during the festive period and maintain price stability for consumers.

As Malaysians prepare for the joyous Chinese New Year celebrations, this price control scheme is designed to alleviate the financial burden, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a prosperous and festive time with their families.
