KUALA LUMPUR – Investigative journalist Tom Wright has questioned whether Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was discrediting his latest report on fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, who he alleges is hiding in Shanghai, China.
“Is he calling us liars?” Wright asked in a post on X, responding to Saifuddin’s recent statement that authorities have yet to obtain credible evidence to confirm Low’s location or that he is using a fake Australian passport.
Saifuddin maintained that Malaysian police were continuing to work closely with international enforcement agencies to trace Low’s whereabouts.
In a YouTube video released last Friday, Wright and fellow journalist Bradley Hope revealed that they had obtained documents and sources pointing to Low living in a luxury mansion in Green Hills, a high-end neighbourhood in Shanghai. They claimed Low was operating under the alias “Constantinos Achilles Veis”, using a forged Australian passport.
The pair also alleged that Low is now working covertly as a strategist for the Chinese government, reportedly assisting Chinese companies under sanctions in navigating international restrictions.
Both Wright and Hope are former Wall Street Journal reporters, renowned for their early investigative work on the 1MDB scandal and co-authors of the book Billion Dollar Whale.
In another separate tweet, Wright said: “I am not Malaysian, of course. But I’d be pretty pissed off with Jho's low over US$ 18 billion in losses. I’d also believe my government could do something to get him back from his current life of luxury in Shanghai exile.” – July 24, 2025
