Unveiled by Japanese automaker Toyota at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, ‘Walk Me’ is a groundbreaking mobility aid featuring four robotic legs that enable stair-climbing and compact folding. Even as a prototype concept, its initial debut was nothing short of astonishing.

Living up to high expectations, the device was recently honored with the prestigious Red Dot:  Luminary Award at Germany’s Red Dot Design Concept competition 2026.

Redefining urban accessibility

Bringing complete freedom back to personal mobility, this four-legged marvel was designed by Misako Kawata and directed by Takashi Nishimura. It effortlessly scales stairs, glides sideways through tight spaces, and lifts riders to a dignified eye-level perspective. With the ‘Walk Me’, stairs and high curbs are no longer obstacles but invitations—seamlessly bridging homes, the great outdoors, and transit without a second thought.

“Toyota is evolving from a traditional automaker into a mobility company—one dedicated to bringing the freedom of movement to everyone,” said Takashi Nishimura, Team Lead at Toyota Motor Corporation.“I see this award as recognition of the entire team’s shared vision, and as the momentum we need to push a more human-centered direction for robotics even further,” said Misako Kawata, Designer of Walk Me at Toyota Motor Corporation.

Where robotic engineering meets ‘Omotenashi’

Deeply rooted in the Japanese philosophy of Omotenashi (hospitality), the concept welcomingly greets its rider with a posture that resembles a polite bow. Defying the cold, clinical aesthetic typical of medical assistive devices, its complex mechanical joints are seamlessly concealed by bespoke 3D-knitted fabric. Paired with a warm, felt-textured exterior, the design achieves a tactile, friendly silhouette that feels more like premium furniture than a machine.
