Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has cemented Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series as one of the best modern detective movies. Thanks to its gripping twists, fans are now wondering whether their beloved detective Benoit Blanc (played by Daniel Craig) will return with Knives Out 4. If you are one of those fans, you’ve come to the right place.

Movies in the Knives Out franchise, which started in 2019, are famously titled after songs, with the latest addition to the series deriving its name from “Wake Up Dead Man”, a U2 song from the band’s 1997 album Pop. When the first film received critical acclaim and was a commercial success, it led to a sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, that was released three years later. Now, three years after the sequel, the third instalment, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, had its theatrical release on 26 November, followed by its Netflix premiere on 12 December 2025.

Now, if we are to follow this three-year cycle, can we expect Knives Out 4 to be released sometime in 2028? Let’s find out.

So far, there has been no information about Knives Out 4. In fact, Wake Up Dead Man concludes Johnson’s two-film deal with Netflix.

However, a fourth film could be possible as Johnson, while talking to Variety, stated, “As long as audiences want to keep seeing it, and Daniel and I are still having fun making them and still feel like we can come up with stuff that feels not just fresh, but a fresh challenge for us, I think that’ll translate to a new experience for the audience.” He further added, “For now, I’d be thrilled to keep making these for the rest of my life.”

In an interview with IndieWire, Johnson also mentioned actors he would like to work with in a Knives Out movie: “There are so many great actors I’d like to work with. But, yes, if you’re reading this, Meryl Streep, I feel like you’d slot into a murder mystery very well.”

Additionally, while talking to The Hollywood Reporter about more films in the Knives Out series, he said, “Creatively, I feel energized after making this one. Daniel and I are already starting to formulate … what could the next one be if we do another one?”

So, even though there’s no official confirmation, it’s not unlikely that we get a Knives Out 4, and so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.

How does Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery end?

Spoiler alert!

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery ends with Martha (played by Glenn Close) being revealed as the mastermind of the “perfectly impossible crime” as she dies while confessing her sins to Father Jud (played by Josh O’Connor). She also reveals that she had possession of the precious jewel — Eve’s Apple — which falls from her hand as she dies. In the final scene of the movie, Father Jud hides the jewel in the new Christian cross he woodworks for the Church.
