Love. What is your first response when you hear that word? What do you feel about that word or the meaning it embodied? Some of you may feel the warmth, and some may feel a wave of intense anger. Some might not feel anything at all.
Love comes in different shapes and sizes. It could be your loyal companion wagging its tail as you enter your house. It could be a mother’s nagging when her daughter did something wrong, and it could also be a friend checking up on you when the going gets tough.
Among all the love that we could observe around us, there is one particular love that does more harm than good. Unrequited love. Do you remember the first time you met someone who you thought would be yours forever? Everything seemed so amazing and beautiful. It was perfect. He/she is the one for me.
That is until the texts stopped coming in.
‘Good morning.’ Sent 8 hours ago. The word seen pops up on the bottom right of the chat bubble.
‘Hey, how was your day?’ No replies.
The ring you hear from your mobile device comes from one of the many apps you downloaded. Communication became an eerie silence. When difficult topics are brought up, you became a victim of the cold shoulder. Despite all these, you still refused to let go. That's when a decision was made to try harder, putting in the extra effort to save the relationship.
You tried for days, weeks, and months. Nothing changed, or did it? When so much effort was made for a person who did not reciprocate, you lose yourself. Everything starts to revolve around them. Pieces of you go missing. After all the emotional turmoil, you can no longer feel. The numbness courses through your nervous system. Finally, you call it quits.
Once again, you embarked on the journey to find yourself. Reliving the misery of heartbreak, going through the five stages of grief. Sometimes, I cannot help myself but ponder if finding love was worth the pain. I still could not answer that question today. So, I'd like to ask you, is finding love worth it?
