On 24 Nov 2024, BN chief Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly said discussions will be held with Madani coalition partners in the government to finalise the seat allocation where BN is eyeing to contest 5 parliamentary seats in the Federal Territories.
As BN currently held Titiwangsa, the other 4 parliamentary seats are most likely Putrajaya and Labuan which are currently held by PN and 2 seats currently held by PH to make up the 5 seats.
2 days after this, Zahid Hamidi revealed that there were offers for BN to withdraw from the unity government and form a new one, with an offer of the Prime Minister's position in exchange while those collaborators asked for four cabinet posts to be given to them.
Asking for 4 Cabinet posts only?
If all the above 4 coalitions band together, it will be 127 MPs, more than the magical number of 112 MPs required, to form a government.
PAS which has 49 MPs has ruled themselves out as one of the offeror or offerors because in July 2024, they publicly states that they will not work with Umno as long as the party is led by Zahid Hamidi.
If they do so, PAS will be slapping themselves and lose all credibility.
However, since Zahid, who prior to the 15th GE, states that Umno's stand was not to accept working with Anwar, DAP, or Bersatu but then acted otherwise, it is not a surprise if PAS were to follow suit too i.e going back against what they publicly proclaimed.
As Zahid Hamidi said recently, in politics there are no permanent friends or enemies but only permanent interests.
GPS presently holds 5 minister’s posts and 6 deputy minister posts in the federal cabinet while 1 of its ministers is also the deputy prime minister.
It can’t possibly be leaving the present unity government for them to be appointed only to 4 Cabinet posts.
This leave only Bersatu with its 19 MPs potentially as the offeror.
Members of Bersatu will forever remember 16 Aug 2021 for on that day, BN and UMNO the withdrew their support for the government forcing their President to step down as the country’s 8th PM.
During that brief period of 17 months from the time when they seized power until their President steps down as the 8th PM, they were leading and spearheading the government.
It is inconceivable for Bersatu now to play 2nd fiddle to BN and UMNO just for the sake of returning to become the government.
Definitely they would want to lead again if they are to return to the government.
This narrows down the number of possible offeror or offerors to Zahid’s revelation.
So who was that statement i.e Zahid claiming that there were offers for BN to withdraw from the unity government and form a new one, meant for?
PH?
To tell parties in PH not to be too hard and give what BN and UMNO asked for in seats for the next GE as they have ready suitors standing by to swoop in on them if their demands are rejected by PH?
If the leadership in PH is taken in by this cry wolf strategy, they don’t deserve to govern this country.
