PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Johari Ghani has asserted that Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be the prime minister should Barisan Nasional (BN) win the general election.
Johari criticised the coalition’s opponents for claiming that “one vote for BN is one vote for Zahid as prime minister”, in reference to claims that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was vying for the top post.
“Umno’s Supreme Council has already spoken on the matter, saying that Ismail will be the prime ministerial candidate for BN.
“(However), there are still those who wish to pit BN leaders against one another,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying.
Johari, who is contesting the Titiwangsa seat, is the latest Umno member to express support for Ismail as prime minister.
Earlier, Khairy Jamaluddin backed Ismail as BN’s prime ministerial candidate, adding that the Umno vice-president should challenge Zahid for the party’s top post if he was made prime minister again.
