Ismail Sabri congratulates successor Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has expressed his congratulations and best wishes to his successor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was sworn in earlier today at Istana Negara here.

In a brief statement, Ismail Sabri, who is also Bera MP, took the opportunity to thank citizens and civil servants who had supported him throughout his stint as prime minister, which was the shortest in the nation’s history at just over 14 months.

“Thank you to the entire Keluarga Malaysia and public service officers, especially frontliners, who have stood by me all this while (during the time as prime minister).

“I truly appreciate all the help I received when dealing with challenges to ensure that Malaysia remains on the path of recovery in our health, political, and economic sectors,” he said.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) vice-president added that his prayers are with the new government, conveying his hopes that the fresh administration will be able to continue upholding political stability while guaranteeing economic stability.

At around 5pm today, Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, officially became Malaysia’s 10th prime minister after taking his oath of office before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Among the political leaders present at the ceremony included Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, whose BN coalition is expected to be part of a unity government led by PH.

Today’s ceremony puts an end to days of political uncertainty, after the 15th general election failed to produce a coalition with a simple majority to form the government.

Anwar’s appointment comes following a special meeting of the Conference of Rulers earlier today, which agreed to name him prime minister. – The Vibes, November 24, 2022
