KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and predecessor Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin never agreed to expedite the corruption trials of Umno leaders, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
The outgoing prime minister and his successor only had agreements on the formation of Ismail Sabri’s government, he said as reported by Free Malaysia Today at an event in Putrajaya.
It was also more of an “understanding” and not an agreement, said the Umno MP for Ketereh.
“It’s like handing-over notes. The understanding was very limited to matters related to the formation of the government,” Annuar was quoted as saying.
He acknowledged speculation that the purported agreement had included the appointment of the attorney-general, and added: “I can confirm that this is not true”.
Annuar said the understanding between Ismail Sabri and Muhyiddin was limited to cabinet appointments and election matters.
He was commenting on claims made by former Umno Supreme Council member Lokman Adam that Ismail Sabri had allegedly agreed to speed up the trials of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and to also retain Tan Sri Idrus Harun as the attorney-general, who was appointed by Muhyiddin when he was prime minister.
Copies of the purported agreement had gone viral and were also posted on the Malaysia Today blog run by controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin.
Earlier today, Lokman was charged at the cybercrime sessions court in Kuala Lumpur for allegedly uploading insulting content against the government and Ismail Sabri on his Facebook page.
Lokman told reporters outside the court today that he still wanted the Umno Supreme Council to take disciplinary action against Ismail Sabri over the alleged agreements with Muhyiddin. – The Vibes, September 1, 2022
