Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has dismissed circulating social media rumors alleging that he and 13 other Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs have withdrawn their support for the Unity Government. He reaffirmed his unwavering backing for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, emphasizing that the claims were entirely false.
“The rumor has been spreading for some time, and at first, I chose to ignore it because it wasn’t true. However, as it gained traction through articles and videos, I felt it necessary to set the record straight,” Ismail Sabri stated in an interview with Sinar Harian.
The Bera MP clarified that neither he nor any other BN representatives had left the party or coalition. “It is simply not true that anyone has left UMNO or BN. We remain firmly within the government,” he asserted.
Ismail Sabri suggested that the allegations were politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing his image and creating discord within BN. “I believe these accusations are made with bad intentions, specifically to discredit me. Despite my clear stance on staying with UMNO, these baseless claims continue,” he said.
He further described the rumors as an attempt to sow distrust among BN lawmakers, stressing that their commitment to the government remained evident through their continued support of key legislative measures.
“When the confidence motion was introduced, all 30 BN MPs backed it. Likewise, we have consistently supported government bills in Parliament,” he pointed out.
By publicly addressing the issue, Ismail Sabri hopes to put an end to the speculation and reaffirm BN’s support for the administration.
His statement follows similar remarks made by BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Kadir on March 17. Dr. Zambry dismissed claims of disunity within BN, asserting that all political matters were being handled transparently. “These rumors are nothing more than a game played by individuals with their own agendas,” he said.
On a lighter note, Ismail Sabri shared that he had been unable to visit Ramadan bazaars or interact with traders as he usually would due to time constraints. He also expressed gratitude for the well-wishes regarding his health.
“My health is improving, and I truly appreciate the kind messages from the people,” he said.
