Israel launches airstrike on Lebanon in first operation since ceasefire was agreed

  • Israel’s military has carried out an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, marking its first such operation in the Lebanese capital since a ceasefire was agreed last month. The strike reportedly targeted the commander of Hezbollah's Radwan force.
  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that the commander's operatives were "responsible for firing at Israeli communities ‌and harming IDF ​soldiers."
  • This action comes despite the ceasefire, with hostilities persisting in southern Lebanon and Israeli strikes continuing in the region.
  • Separately, US military forces fired several rounds at an unladen Iranian-flagged oil tanker on Wednesday.
  • The US Central Command reported that the vessel had attempted to sail towards an Iranian port, in what it described as a violation of an existing blockade.
