The Israeli military has destroyed a large underground Hezbollah tunnel in southern Lebanon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said in a joint statement.
The tunnel was part of the Lebanese militia's "terrorist infrastructure" near the village of Majdal Zoun, the statement released on Sunday said.
The statement said the tunnel was more than 200 metres long and more than 25 metres deep. It contained hundreds of weapons and several launch silos intended for attacks on Israeli territory, they said.
The military said the tunnel was about 10 kilometres from the Israeli border.
Israel informed the United States in advance of the operation to destroy the infrastructure, the statement said.
Lebanese residents reported that the ground shook during the massive explosion.
Tensions remain high in southern Lebanon despite an official ceasefire and the agreement of a framework deal between Israel and Lebanon.
On Friday, the two countries agreed on a path towards peace and security after decades of war. Hezbollah, however, rejects the agreement. The militia was not involved in the negotiations and has firmly rejected the disarmament envisaged under the deal.
Unlike demands from the leadership in Tehran and Hezbollah, the framework agreement only requires Israel to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon once non-state groups such as Hezbollah have been disarmed.
However, the deal provides for the Israeli army to gradually withdraw from two zones, which would then come under the control of the Lebanese army.
