Israel shares intelligence with US of Iranian plot to assassinate Trump

ISRAEL recently shared intelligence with the United States about a new Iranian plot to assassinate President Trump, according to a report.

The plan would mark a major escalation in the conflict between the US and Iran, which agreed to end the war last month after weeks of talks.

Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding, which saw both sides agree to a ceasefire and the Strait of Hormuz reopen, as negotiations took place over how to limit Iran's nuclear ambitions.

One of the sources said the warning came this week.

Another source said the US had picked up a steady drumbeat of intelligence in recent weeks about possible plans to assassinate Trump, but the warning from Israel was new and concerned a specific plot.

Other American officials suggested the Israeli report could be an effort to sway Trump’s decision-making as he weighs whether to intensify American military action against Iran.

Details regarding the plot were not revealed, but Trump did speak to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday and agreed to continue 'coordination between the countries,' the Wall Street Journal reported.

When asked for comment, the White House referred to Trump’s Wednesday remarks at the NATO summit in Ankara.

“They want to take out the US leader — me,” Trump said. “I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning that I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long.”

Trump added: 'These are evil, sick people. And we have to root out that cancer. That cancer. You know what you do? You've got to cut out cancer early. And that's the way I feel.'

Tensions have ramped up between the US and Iran in recent days, with the two sides trading threats and strikes as a 60-day ceasefire ending hostilities is in tatters. – July 10, 2026
