US President Donald Trump has informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the state of negotiations with Iran, Israeli media reported on Sunday.
Trump assured Netanyahu in a phone call that, as part of any agreement, he would stick to the demand for Iran's nuclear programme to be stopped and for all highly enriched uranium to be removed from Iran, several Israeli media outlets reported, citing a senior Israeli government official.
Trump also gave Netanyahu assurances during the call on Saturday that he would not sign any final agreement with Tehran unless those conditions were met, the reports said.
The US president had written on the Truth Social platform that the United States was close to a framework agreement with Tehran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Israel insists on military freedom of action
During the phone call, Netanyahu stressed that Israel would preserve its freedom of action against threats in the region, including in Lebanon. Trump explicitly supported this principle, according to the reports.
According to media reports, concern is growing in Israel that Trump could strike an agreement with Tehran that Israel views as disadvantageous and that does not sufficiently take account of its security interests.
Against the backdrop of reports of a possible imminent agreement, Netanyahu was reported to be convening his security cabinet for consultations on Sunday evening.
