Israeli air raids in south Beirut and Khaldeh kill seven, wound dozens as military targets Hezbollah commanders amid escalating cross-border conflict.

BEIRUT: Israeli strikes on southern Beirut and a nearby town killed seven people and wounded dozens on Wednesday, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

The ministry said an initial toll from a raid on the Jnah area showed five dead and 21 wounded. A separate strike on a vehicle in Khaldeh, south of the capital, killed two people and wounded three.

A Lebanese security source said the strikes in Jnah targeted four cars parked in the street. Israel’s military stated it had struck a senior Hezbollah commander and another member of the Iran-backed group in Beirut in two separate operations.

Lebanon was drawn into the wider Middle East conflict on March 2 when Hezbollah launched attacks to avenge the killing of Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel has since conducted broad strikes across Lebanon and a ground offensive.

Lebanese authorities report the hostilities have killed more than 1,200 people and displaced over one million. Hezbollah has claimed dozens of attacks on Israeli targets and reported clashes with soldiers near the border on Tuesday.
