KUALA LUMPUR – Istana Negara has summoned Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition heads for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 4.30pm today.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin are being summoned after the king found that no MP has a simple majority support from other Dewan Rakyat members to be the 10th prime minister, a statement from the palace said.
"Istana Negara has received information from the heads of coalitions on their positions and prime minister candidates.
“Given that no MP has support from simple majority of Dewan Rakyat members, His Majesty has decreed an audience with the heads of PH and PN at 4.30pm at Istana Negara,” said Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.
The king again urged citizens to remain calm while allowing the process of forming a new government and appointing a prime minister to be completed.
The summons come after Barisan Nasional (BN), which had been in talks with PH to form a new government, decided not side with any coalition and to remain an opposition party instead.
There are 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat.
In GE15, PH won 82 seats, PN 73, and BN 30. Smaller coalitions Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah won 23 and six respectively, while Warisan won three.
Smaller parties and independents make up four seats, while Padang Serai will hold a delayed poll on December 7 after the death of one candidate. – The Vibes, November 22, 2022
