In a report titled `Detecting and countering misuse of AI: September 2026; dated 10 Sept 2026, US artificial intelligence developer Anthropic, examined attempts to misuse Anthropic’s Claude models between December 2025 and August 2026.
Anthropic said it removed an account that used Claude to operate a commercial election manipulation network consisting of about 1,000 fake accounts on X, a fake news website and fabricated dossiers.
The company said it found “clear links” between the network and BBS Bilişim Teknolojileri, an İstanbul-based company that operates as BBS Technology.
BBS sold access to the system as an influence service, while the people operating it described it as a “military-grade, AI-driven, real-time political operations ecosystem,”
The platform used census, election and voter data to profile all 222 Malaysian parliamentary constituencies according to race, religion and attitudes toward the monarchy.
Its fake accounts were programmed to appear authentic before joining political campaigns and to evade social media platforms’ detection systems.
One dashboard showed a request for 1 million artificial views in support of PMX’s account, although Anthropic said figures recorded by the operator could not be independently verified.
The people behind the network also produced dossiers containing claims about an opposition politician and civil society groups that Anthropic found had no factual basis.
A fake outlet named Malaysia Pulse scraped reports from Malaysian news organizations, rewrote them with Claude and published them under fabricated bylines.
The company behind the operation sought a contract with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, but Anthropic found no evidence that it secured one.
The company said its name, digital assets or information belonging to former affiliates may have been used without its knowledge and pledged to file a criminal complaint if its review identifies those responsible.
Even though it is expected that all the `actors’ named in the report will deny any knowledge or any role and potentially deny the report itself, it is the responsibility of those named in the report to come out and deny or admit to their complicity exposed in the report.

Its platform showed news reported on 2 Oct 2024 and on 15 Sept 2026.
No articles or news was posted on the platform for the period from 3 Oct 2024 to 14 Sept 2026.
The period which Anthropic was reviewing `actors’ that misused Claude was for the period between December 2025 and August 2026.
A mainstream media reported that there are no real journalists or editors behind the articles on malaysiapulse.my.
The operation utilized Anthropic's Claude AI to scrape legitimate news stories from actual Malaysian media organizations, automatically rewrite them multiple times to mask the plagiarism, and publish them under entirely fictional, AI-generated human names (fabricated bylines) to mimic an independent media organization
Another mainstream media postulated that because the site's entire facade—including its content and the authors writing for it—was artificially generated, the specific individuals "behind" the operation are tied to a broader corporate entity rather than a legitimate local newsroom.
As expected, BBS, short for denied any involvement, knowledge or approval and announced an internal review.
The company even tried to parlay off their involvement by claiming that its name, digital assets or information belonging to former affiliates may have been used without its knowledge and pledged to file a criminal complaint if its review identifies those responsible.
Really?
Used without its knowledge?
BBS describes itself as a company based in Istanbul Turkey whose principal activities are as a provider of cybersecurity services to public institutions and companies in banking, energy, insurance, aviation and telecommunications.
A company whose principal activities are in those areas claimed that its name, digital assets or information may have been used without its knowledge?
Those clients of theirs that are in banking, energy, insurance, aviation and telecommunications should take note and be very frightened.
Was this a `dark and insidious’ attempt intended to exploit PMX’s personal ties to Turkey's leadership or…….
This appears to be a foreplay of more and what and how politics would be fought out in the future in Malaysia.
Malaysians should be forewarned to take any news they read in the future always with a pinch of salt as to their authenticity.
