Looking outside and seeing the entire neighbourhood covered in orange is a sight that would leave anyone unsettled.
For one woman in Palangka Raya, Indonesia, that was the scene she shared on Threads, along with a desperate plea for help.
Her post showed a house and its surroundings beneath a striking orange sky, drawing concern from netizens over what residents were experiencing.
‘Are we really still on Earth?’
In her post, the woman identified the location as Palangka Raya and stated that it was taken at 11.04am local time today.

Despite it being late morning, the scene appeared covered in a deep orange tint.
“Oh Allah, are we really still on Earth? Please help us, Allah,” she wrote in Bahasa Indonesia.
Smoke hits her whenever she opens the door
Responding to a commenter who asked whether it was very hot, the woman explained that heat was not her main concern.
Instead, she said the air felt suffocating, with a strong smell of smoke entering whenever she opened the door.
Honestly, it isn’t hot. But it’s suffocating, and every time we open the door, the air we breathe feels really unhealthy. The smell of smoke goes straight into our noses,” she said.

In another reply, she shared that she had been experiencing a headache since the previous night.
“My head has been hurting since last night. My chest has also started feeling tight,” she wrote.
Another commenter asked whether residents had been given financial assistance to evacuate, acknowledging that leaving would cost money.
The woman responded by asking where she could go, claiming that flights had been completely disrupted.
‘It looks like Mars’
The unusual colour of the sky prompted some netizens to compare the scene to the planet Mars.
Another said opening the door to such a view would feel like stepping into a different world, while wishing safety and good health for the woman and others affected.
Others expressed sadness and helplessness over the situation.
“My heart is broken. It’s sad because we don’t know what we can do to help you there,” one commenter wrote, adding that they were worried about the impact on future generations.
A separate commenter also shared an image purportedly taken by a friend in Central Kalimantan, showing a road beneath a similarly orange sky. They claimed the colour was real and not a filter.
