Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan has urged the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) to stop featuring “sexy” female models at motorsport events.

During the Committee Stage Debate on the 2025 Supply Bill for KBS in the Dewan Rakyat, Fawwaz specifically referred to the motorsport event, the MotoGP World Championship in Sepang, as it contradicts Islamic teachings and the principles of the Rukun Negara.

It goes against the 5th principle of the Rukun Negara

Fawwaz shared that while the 2024 Sepang MotoGP in early November was well-organised, there’s still room for improvement.

He pointed out the issue with the tradition of having provocatively dressed women at the event, saying it goes against Islamic teachings and the 5th principle of the Rukun Negara, Kesopanan dan Kesusilaan (courtesy and morality).

“It’s just not right for motorsports, which are popular among men and people from all backgrounds, to include stuff like that. A lot of attendees were complaining about it,” he said.

“I hope KBS takes this matter seriously”

Fawwaz is calling on KBS to take this issue seriously and hopes they’ll consider the feedback, just like how they handled the alcohol presentation issue during Formula One (F1) races in the past.

He suggested that the practice should be stopped, similar to how the podium champagne ceremony for F1 was phased out years ago before Malaysia stopped hosting the races.

“This was a good move, and maybe we can do something similar to address the issue of provocatively dressed women,” he said.
