‘It’s an offence to transport soil without cover’

BEAUFORT: 17 summonses were issued against five soil-carrying lorry operators for multiple offences, one of which their failure to cover their loads.

District Police Chief, Superintendent Wong Leong Meng, said, an operation was carried out following complaints received from road users regarding heavy vehicles that posed a danger to public safety.

Advertisement“Among offences that were committed by the lorry drivers, including transporting soil without a cover, which could endanger other road users. “If the soil along with stones being transported were to fall and hit other vehicles, it could cause windscreen damage, posing danger and potentially resulting in accidents,” he said to Daily Express on Wednesday.

He said they were found to have violated regulations under the Road Transport Act 1987 (RTA 1987).

Read more Other offences identified included having no road tax, no Malaysian Computerised Vehicle Inspection (Puspakom), and transporting and carrying leaking water loads.

Wong advised lorry drivers not to operate heavy vehicles without Puspakom inspection as there could be technical issues that pose risks to other road users.

AdvertisementHe also said that the police will not compromise on road safety issues, and any parties violating the rules will face strict action. “I urge the public, especially motorists, to always comply with traffic regulations to avoid being fined,” he said.
