A teacher’s responsibility is not just about spreading knowledge and kindness but also taking care of the well-being of his students. These are undeniably heavy responsibilities but how much further should a teacher care for the students?
What happens when a student’s belonging disappears into thin air?
Just recently, the Twitter page ISU SEMASA VIRAL shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between a Malaysian parent to the teacher of her kid. The parent reached out to the teacher in the hope to retrieve her kid’s missing pencil case but unfortunately, that was not what happened.

She blamed the teacher for not checking and making sure everything was where they belonged and for that, she expected the teacher to cover the losses.
“It’s an expensive pencil case. Can I ask for compensation from you, teacher?” the parent asked the teacher.
“Might as well hire a lawyer”
It is unknown how did the teacher react to that but that part of the conversation went viral on social media, with many Malaysians criticising the parent for allowing her kid to bring a fancy pencil case to the school.
“Those who go to international schools don’t even do this. If you’re that fearful, just ask your kid to use the cheap pencil case from MR. DIY. It’s only natural for kids to lose their stuff. Give them 100 colour pencils and they’ll come back with only 2.”
“Why would you buy something expensive and not take good care of it?”
“Some parents nowadays are the main contributors to the issues in school today. The teacher’s work has become stressful because of these divas.”
“Might as well e-mail this matter to the court and hire a lawyer.”
“Your kid lost the items and you were the one who bought expensive stuff for your kid. Now the teacher has to replace it?”
“Extra pay for extra work to check on your child.”
