Knowing the “Dos” and “Don’ts” of modifying residential areas can spare you from unwanted heartache, trouble, and financial loss when authorities come knocking on your door. And yes, that includes putting up grills in hallways.
In a recent post that’s been gaining traction online, user Haswanis Hassan took to her Facebook to share an incident that occurred in a residential area in Puchong.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Haswanis shared how her neighbour had recently installed a wooden grill in the hallway. She continued to express her concerns, stating that the wooden door was causing inconvenience for other residents, making it difficult for them to come and go.
She then explained that the residents in the area had always dealt with issues of stray cats leaving their feces around. Haswanis claims that this may have been the reason why the neighbour decided to build a door in the hallway to prevent the cats from accessing his house.
It quickly escalated into a heated argument
Haswanis recounted how she noticed one day that a door frame had been installed. This prompted her to approach the uncle and express her concerns.
She explained to him that the walkway was already narrow, and adding a door would only cause further inconvenience, especially considering the built-in shoe rack on the wall.
“I’ve noticed the uncle working on woodworking projects for the past few days, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. He’s always been skilled at it, so it didn’t strike me as unusual or out of the ordinary.”
In the video, Haswanis can also be heard voicing her concerns about the potential hazards of having the door there. In the event of a fire, the wooden door could easily catch fire.
“When I came up to my house, the door was no longer there”
Haswanis shared she initially wanted to send her complaint letter to the to the management office. However, when she came home from work, she realised the door was no longer there.
“I’m not entirely sure if the uncle took it down himself or if the authorities intervened. However, my neighbour mentioned seeing the authorities approaching the uncle. I’m just not certain about the exact timing of their encounter.”

Doors in hallways could be useful, but it’s never a bad idea to “look before you leap” and check in with the building management about regulations.
