While Umno veteran Ku Li believes that Dr Akmal Saleh owes no one an apology for his fiery remarks towards Teresa Kok, a Malaysian professor thinks otherwise.

In his YouTube video last night (September 24), Professor Tajuddin Rasdi explained why the Umno Youth Chief should apologise for his remark against DAP’s Teresa Kok – calling her old Nyonya and suggesting sticking a non-Halal sticker on her forehead.

“In Islam, using insults is not permitted by the Prophet Muhammad under any occasion”

Professor Tajudin said that name-calling is only acceptable if the person is okay with it. Should the person being name-called feel offended, then it is considered a sin to name-call.

“If you call a person fatso and that person doesn’t like it, you need to apologise to that person to eliminate the sin in this world and the hereafter.”

The academician also explained that the Prophet Muhammad forbids Muslims from using bad names or labelling, even to infidels and disbelievers who had fallen in the battle.

“This was to prevent families of the fallen from feeling offended by the name-calling. This was the practice of Prophet Muhammad in Islam. I don’t know what Umno’s practice is.”

Professor Tajudin continued and said that the remark Dr Akmal had made “is certainly not Islamic,” especially without apologies after name-calling Teresa Kok.

“Of course, I think Teresa is offended by this, therefore this is not permitted by Islam.”

Professor Tajudin, however, said that he agreed with Ku Li for saying Akmal need not apologise, in the sense of what Umno is built for – to defend the Malays and the Islamic rights in Malaysia.

The derogatory name-calling, however, is something Akmal should apologise for and why Professor Tajuddin also disagreed with Ku Li on his “no apologies” stance.

What do you think of Professor Tajudin’s take on this?
