A coffee manufacturer in Melaka, Sin Sing Coffee Sdn Bhd, has issued a public clarification following the circulation of online claims and images alleging that non-halal cleaning tools were used in its production process.

The company stressed that the allegations are false and unrelated to its operations, emphasising that its halal certification remains valid.

In its statement today (2 April), the company explained that the viral images and information did not originate from its facilities and do not reflect its production environment or equipment.

It further clarified that it is solely involved in the production of coffee products and does not manufacture biscuits. This distinction is also noted on its official website, making any association with biscuit manufacturing inaccurate and misleading.

Another unrelated factory had its Certification revoked

The clarification comes amid reports involving a separate factory in Melaka that processes both coffee and biscuits, which recently had its halal certification revoked.

According to the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM), an inspection conducted in January by its Halal Management Division found that workers at that facility had used animal-hair brushes to clean processing equipment.

JAIM Director, Md Azhan Samat, stated that the unnamed factory had previously held the Malaysian Halal Certification (SPHM) and had been operating for over a decade. However, the discovery prompted authorities to seize the brushes for analysis at the Malaysian Halal Analysis Centre in Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan.

Laboratory results released in March confirmed that the brushes exhibited physical characteristics consistent with pig bristles. As a result, the factory’s halal certification was immediately withdrawn. According to Malaysia Gazette, workers at the facility claimed they were unaware of the prohibition on using animal-hair brushes in food-processing environments.

The incident has raised public concern over halal compliance and enforcement while highlighting the risks of misinformation spreading online.

In its statement, Sin Sing Coffee, which has been operational for 67 years, reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict halal standards and urged the public not to associate its operations with unrelated cases.
