A recent confession post on Xuan Play‘s Facebook page has caught a lot of attention after a man shared his struggle of having to choose between his mum and his girlfriend.

In the post, the anonymous man (let’s call him John) revealed how his mum was diagnosed with cancer, and he’s been taking her to the hospital for treatment.

“My dad passed away when I was 1 year old”

Growing up as an only child, John was left with just his mom after his dad passed away, and he felt it was his duty to take on the responsibility.

But he and his girlfriend, Sharon (pseudonym), can’t seem to see eye to eye, as she feels his mum should be able to take care of herself.

“I’ve talked to my girlfriend about this, and from her point of view, my mom should be responsible for her own cancer treatment, and it’s not something I should have to take on as her son,” he said.

“Am I wrong?”

John shared that his girlfriend sees a person’s family and their future family as two separate things, believing his responsibilities should be with his future family, not his mum.

“She even thinks that since parents choose to have kids, raising them is their responsibility, and they shouldn’t expect anything in return. But my mum is 70 and sick, how could I just let her face cancer alone?”

He admitted that Sharon’s views have left him feeling lost, especially since she argues that his mom should “learn to be independent” because plenty of older people are still working.

“I’ve always believed that taking care of my aging mom is simply the right thing to do. But in my girlfriend’s eyes, it’s somehow turned into a ‘moral mistake’? How do I even find a balance between the two? Is she right, or is there something wrong with my values?”
