Volvo XC60 Becomes Volvo’s Best-Selling Model with Over 2.7 Million Sold

The Volvo XC60 has officially become the best-selling Volvo car of all time, surpassing the legendary Volvo 240 with over 2.7 million units sold worldwide. This achievement marks a significant milestone in Volvo’s history, solidifying the XC60’s status as a global favourite for families, safety-conscious drivers, and design enthusiasts.

First launched in 2008, the mid-size premium SUV quickly earned its place as a top contender in the segment thanks to its signature blend of Scandinavian design, advanced safety, and versatile practicality. Built initially in Europe and later also in China, the XC60 became Volvo’s first truly global model and was named World Car of the Year in 2018.

According to Susanne Hägglund, Head of Global Offer at Volvo Cars, “The XC60 has not only become a family favourite like the Volvo 240 once was, but it’s also now our all-time top-seller – a true indicator of its lasting success.”

The XC60’s role in Volvo’s electrification journey is also noteworthy. It introduced plug-in hybrid technology to a broader audience and was Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid in 2024. Volvo data shows that nearly half of all distances driven in their plug-in hybrids globally are done in electric mode, showcasing real-world progress in sustainable mobility.

Continuing Volvo’s long-standing commitment to safety, the XC60 brought world-first innovations such as City Safety and Oncoming Lane Mitigation, earning numerous awards for its protective features. These technologies build on a legacy started by the Volvo 240, which introduced crumple zones, side-impact protection, and even the world’s first child booster cushion.

In Malaysia, the XC60 remains a cornerstone of Volvo Car Malaysia’s lineup. Locally assembled at Malaysia’s oldest vehicle plant, it forms part of a full range of electrified Volvo models available across 14 dealerships nationwide.
