42-year-old Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh has been missing since April 9, after she was believed to have been abducted when she failed to show up at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya to give a statement.

According to Sinar Harian, Pamela was scheduled to appear that day to assist in an ongoing investigation into a money laundering case. There have also been claims that she was taken by individuals wearing a vest labelled “police,” but further investigations are still underway.

“It was beyond our control”

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has pushed back against public criticism, saying the agency shouldn’t be blamed for Pamela Ling’s disappearance, as the incident happened outside MACC’s jurisdiction, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Responding to the allegations, he also emphasised that her disappearance shouldn’t be linked to any failure by MACC to provide protection, as there were no prior threats to her safety before the incident.

“MACC is fully cooperating with the police”

In an interview with the Malaysia Gazette, Azam also said there hadn’t been anything suspicious during Pamela’s previous visits to the MACC headquarters when she was helping with the case.

“MACC is fully cooperating with the police in the investigation into this high-profile case. Even the officer who took her statement has already given his own statement to the police,” he added.

He also reminded the public not to jump to conclusions and to give the police space to do a proper investigation.
