It is no big secret that a lot of Malaysians have left the country for better pastures. A lot of these Malaysians who are able to leave the country are usually the ones who have the financial power and the brains to do so. Not to say that the rest of the Malaysians have no brains to leave, just that they have their own reasons for not being able to leave the country.
Reasons why Malaysians choose to leave Malaysia
For the most part, Malaysians leave the country for 2 main reasons:
- Better job security and salary
- A better fighting chance with job opportunities
With most other countries offering such lucrative jobs and job markets, it is without a doubt Malaysians would go for it in a heartbeat. To be fair, the Malaysian job market has been stagnant for years. Not only are foreign investors leaving the country or investing less in Malaysia, the number of new jobs created every year is becoming less and less.
Foreign companies and investors are not actively investing in our country due to the low confidence our country is giving them. They are getting the impression that we do not care about work and are not committed to their best interests. The vote of no confidence has driven away so many potential foreign investors. Look at all these new jobs that could have been created if our country provides and offers these foreign investors.
If these foreign investors do come into Malaysia and invest in Malaysia, these newly created jobs would have solved some of the unemployment problems in our country. Unfortunately, that is not the case. A lot of these foreign investors would rather go elsewhere to invest instead.
Little career advancement made experienced people leave the country
When there is so little to no career advancement for experienced people in Malaysia, they are bound to become stagnant. Depending on what they are looking for and how big their career appetite is, they’d rather leave for greener pastures. Why would they want to stay in a country that isn’t going anywhere? Or why would they stay if their experience is not being appreciated at the very least?
If you have worked long enough in Malaysia, you will notice that it is very little to no career growth and advancement for experienced people in the country. Sooner or later you will become very restless and bored with what you do on a daily basis in the office. If you fight for better opportunities and career growth, you will quickly find out that your concern is not taken seriously.
Given that there are challenges facing many job opportunities and career growth, it does not mean that experienced people should be treated like dirt. That is why many people rather go elsewhere to fight for their career growth.
Can Malaysia recuperate the loss of talents?
Not sure but it looks like a no for the most part. No one cares if these talented Malaysians leave the country and change their citizenship. Certain groups of Malaysians would rather see these people leave the country than stay to help it improve. As selfish as that sounds, we see plenty of these kinds of people existing in our country. As long as they get solid support, they will forever stay vocal for all the wrong reasons.
We can try to entice these talented Malaysians back but I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Why would they want to come back when they have had better? They’d be really stupid if they trade something better for the worst. No smart person would ever do that.
