The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved Used Water Management Projects for Baramulla and Rajouri at an estimated cost of Rs 37.96 crore and Rs 34.43 crore, respectively, to strengthen sanitation infrastructure and tackle wastewater management challenges in the two urban areas.
An official spokesman said the projects, approved by the Omar Abdullah-led government, are aimed at ensuring scientific sewage treatment, preventing pollution of water bodies, and improving public health, hygiene and overall living standards in Baramulla and Rajouri.
The Housing and Urban Development Department has prepared Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the projects under the CAPEX component of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.
The DPRs have been technically vetted by National Institute of Technology Srinagar. The projects will use Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology, which enables high-efficiency sewage treatment through a single-step biological process.
The initiatives are intended to improve sanitation infrastructure and establish sustainable wastewater treatment systems in both towns. The projects are scheduled for completion within 18 months.
