JAECOO J5 EV Makes First Public Appearance at Oh My Meow! Expo 2026

OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has officially previewed the JAECOO J5 EV, marking the first public appearance of the brand’s debut battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the country.

This EV builds on the familiar bones of the Jaecoo J5 1.5T and is being showcased at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026, which runs from 9 to 12 July 2026 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MVEC). The choice of venue highlights the vehicle’s marketing focus on pet owners as it shares the same TÜV-certified anti-bacterial, scratch-resistant and low-VOC leather upholstery as the petrol model.

Drivetrain, Battery, and Charging Performance

The JAECOO J5 EV is built on a front-wheel-drive configuration powered by a single electric motor.

Technical Specifications:

• Maximum Torque: 288 Nm
• Battery Pack: 58.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) supplied by CATL
• Driving Range: Up to 402 km under the WLTP testing cycle
• DC Fast Charging: 30% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) in 28 minutes

The vehicle also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. This system allows the vehicle’s high-voltage traction battery to supply power to external electrical appliances, catering to outdoor activities and camping setups.

On-Board Technology and Safety Systems

The J5 EV incorporates an Active Grille Shutter (AGS) system that dynamically modifies airflow to optimize aerodynamic efficiency and powertrain thermal management. As a result, it can be easily distinguished visually from the petrol model just from a quick glance at the front of the vehicle. The dashboard layout centers around a 13.2-inch 2K resolution infotainment screen. For parking and low-speed navigation, drivers are assisted by a 540-degree HD surround-view camera system, which provides a simulated view underneath the vehicle chassis.

Safety equipment includes a Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package that integrates 19 individual active safety and driver aid systems.

Cabin Architecture and Storage Capacity

To accommodate family use and pet transportation, the interior packaging focuses heavily on physical space optimization and noise insulation.

• Storage Configurations: The vehicle provides a 480-litre rear cargo area alongside a 35-litre front trunk (frunk) dedicated to storing charging equipment or smaller items. A total of 35 individual storage cubbies are integrated throughout the cabin.
• NVH Control: Acoustic comfort is managed via double-glazed glass on the front side windows to reduce wind and road noise.
• Chassis Setup: The vehicle utilizes a rear multi-link independent suspension system to improve ride stability and handling refinement.
• Cabin Amenities: The interior features a 1.45-square-meter panoramic glass roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and hard-wearing materials suitable for carrying pets.
