With Monsoon season almost upon us and imprisonment a real possibility for him, Zahid pushes shamelessly harder for GE15 to be held this year vowing to wade through flood waters if necessary.
Zahid told PM Ismail Sabri at a recent meeting of Barisan National (BN) Youth directly pressuring the latter that the signal was "loud and clear that now is the time" to hold elections and it ought to be held this year supposedly before the end of 2022.
Also, if it was held at the end of the year which is a time for rain and flooding on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia his party was ready to wade through the floods.
Other political parties had also voiced concerns that an election in November this year might be troublesome because the forecast expects increased rainfall then which may result in widespread flooding.
However, Zahid said the party was ready to wade through the flood waters if the GE15 was to happen during flooding time.
But everyone is well aware of developments in the court and the possibility of imprisonment for Zahid.
Of course, we cannot and should never preempt the court's final decision but in Zahid's case, it is obvious even to a layman that the probability of one conviction out of 42 charges is quite high.
Therefore, Zahid's motives are obvious to everyone including Klang's MP Charles Santiago.
Santiago says Zahid's insistence on holding a general election even during the flood season shows the latter's desperate bid to try and get the criminal charges against him dropped by the courts.
Charles took issue with Zahid's single-minded focus to mobilise an election to regain political power without showing any concern for the safety of the citizens in case a disaster should happen in an election held during the monsoon.
"Zahid should organise an Umno flood brigade to help people fleeing their houses because of floods, just like ordinary folks did instead of asking people to vote. How can this guy be trusted to lead a country? Shameless," Charles Santiago said over Twitter and was quoted by Malaysia Kini.
To a desperate man like Zahid come hell or high water he would want his Vice President, PM Ismail Sabri to hold GE15 before the end of 2022 and that would be his last straw.
A despairing man like Zahid would cling to any passing straw to keep his hope alive to stay out of jail. But unfortunately, his options are running out.
