SANDAKAN: Two men were jailed seven years and ordered given three strokes of the cane each for repeatedly taking syabu.

Sessions Court Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal handed the sentence to Rossidi Musa Lamri, 42 and Sukirno Saito, 48, who pleaded guilty separately to the charge against them on Wednesday.

The court also ordered the duo placed under police supervision for two years after they serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.

Rossidi has two previous conviction records for taking the drugs in 2017 and 2018 while Sukirno has only one record in 2020.

The offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 and punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act provides for a jail term of between five and seven years and whipping, on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Al-Hakim Abdul Razak appeared for the prosecution while the accused were not represented.
