Jailed for having stolen car, disposing stolen Milo

Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old man was sentenced to a total of nine months by the Magistrate’s Court here on two counts of having a stolen vehicle and disposing of a stolen instant beverage.

Steve Danielleo Goerge pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to committing both offences.

On the first count, Steve was jailed eight months for keeping a stolen Perodua Kancil belonging to one Jamal Abd Rahman on May 15, this year, at 5pm, at the roadside of Kg Talibong, Tamparuli, Tuaran.

The court heard from the prosecution that the complainant lodged a police report on May 10, this year that his car, parked at Taman Putera Jaya went missing.

The police, acting on information, detained a man at Kg Talibong, later identified as Steve, who was driving a car, which was reported stolen by the complainant.

Steve, on the second count, was handed one month jail for disposing of a packet of 1.8kg of stolen Milo belonging to Bataras Freshmart, on May 16, this year, at 3pm, at a restaurant at Kolam Centre here.

Steve was rearrested by police at the police Headquarters on May 20, and led the police to the recovery of the instant beverage, which was reported stolen from the shop on April 28, this year.

The charge is framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

The court ordered Steve to serve the sentences concurrently.

In another case, a 45-year-old man was jailed three months for stealing a handphone.

Roslan Gunonop pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to stealing the gadget on May 19, this year, at 1.49pm, at the Vivo Concept Store, Karamunsing complex.

The charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine on conviction.

The prosecution informed the court that Roslan’s theft of the gadget was spotted on the store’s CCTV.

Roslan was then arrested by a security guard after being alerted by the shop’s worker.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Arfa Anchal Khan Muhammad Munir Khan and Inspector Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah prosecuted.
