Nepal’s emerging political force, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on Monday held a series of high-level engagements here with party chairman Rabi Lamichhane meeting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and BJP national president Nitin Nabin as part of efforts to deepen political and people-to-people ties between India and Nepal.
Jaishankar described his meeting with Lamichhane and his delegation as productive, saying discussions centred on the India-Nepal development partnership, and the close people-to-people connections that underpin bilateral ties.
“A pleasure to meet Nepal’s RSP chairperson Rabi Lamichhane and his delegation today in Delhi. Our discussions focused on the India-Nepal development partnership and people-to-people ties. These have a crucial role in promoting growth and prosperity,” Jaishankar said.
The visit was organised under BJP’s “Know BJP” initiative, which seeks to familiarise foreign political leaders and parties with BJP’s organisational structure, governance model and political outreach mechanisms.
During discussions at BJP headquarters, Nitin Nabin highlighted the deep-rooted civilisational, cultural and people-to-people links between India and Nepal and said such exchanges helped strengthen democratic dialogue and party-to-party engagement.
He briefed the Nepalese delegation on BJP’s ideological foundations, organisational structure and grassroots mobilisation strategy, explaining how the party maintains a direct connect with citizens through its extensive cadre network.
The RSP delegation sought details about BJP’s membership drive, candidate selection process and mechanisms for identifying and nurturing grassroots leaders. BJP leaders also shared insights into the party’s governance approach under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasising development, welfare delivery and public outreach.
According to BJP, both sides also discussed the growing role of Gen Z in politics and its potential impact on democratic participation and future leadership.
The visit comes amid continued political engagement between India and Nepal, whose ties are anchored in deep historical, cultural and economic linkages despite periodic differences over bilateral issues.
