**JAKARTA - **Passengers on TransBandara’s Blok M–Soekarno-Hatta Airport route began paying Rp15,000, or about 85 US cents, per trip on September 1.
The flat official fare follows a trial period during which Jakarta cited a Rp3,500 fare, lifting the headline price more than fourfold. Officials describe the measure as the route’s first permanent fare after the trial rather than an increase to the wider Transjakarta tariff.
Jakarta established the fare on July 31 under Governor’s Decree No. 685 of 2026 and gave passengers one month’s notice before implementation. The measure applies only to the Blok M airport service. The Kalideres–Soekarno-Hatta route keeps its existing fare.
The service launched on March 12 with 14 low-deck buses designed with luggage areas.
The government put the route’s operating cost at about Rp70,000 per passenger over 64 kilometres, with a city subsidy covering the difference.
“The service remains subsidized by the Jakarta government,” Transportation Agency Head Budi Awaluddin said, describing the fare as necessary to sustain operations and meet minimum service standards.
The service runs daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., leaving Blok M from Lane 6. Its airport-area stops include the cargo complex, immigration office, airport railway station and Soekarno-Hatta office complex.
It does not stop directly at the passenger terminals, requiring travellers to connect using the airport Skytrain or shuttle.
Transjakarta said it would improve the Blok M departure area, install passenger-information displays at both ends of the route and add real-time arrival information to its app. The operator aims to keep buses about 15 minutes apart during peak periods and 20 minutes apart off-peak.
