The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) has announced its intention to file a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) concerning a TikTok video that calls on the public to pray for misfortune to befall leaders, including the Prime Minister. This video, which features a Qunut Nazilah recitation accompanied by a message asking Allah to curse the Prime Minister, his ministers, and his supporters, has raised significant concerns.

Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, stated that Jakim would defer to the MCMC to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the account responsible for the video. "We will request the MCMC to review the content, and it will be up to the authorities to determine any further measures," he said during a press conference. This statement was made after he officiated the north zone-level "Jelajah Madani Ulama dan Umara" programme.

Minister Mohd Na’im emphasized that the actions depicted in the video are fundamentally against Islamic teachings. He underscored that Islam advocates for differences in opinion to be expressed respectfully and through proper channels. The call for prayers to bring harm to leaders is not only inappropriate but also contradicts the principles of Islamic decorum and etiquette.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining a respectful discourse, especially in matters of disagreement. The use of social media platforms to spread messages that incite harm or ill-will towards others is a serious issue that needs addressing. The minister's remarks reflect a broader concern about the misuse of social media to propagate harmful messages and the potential repercussions such actions can have on societal harmony.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in regulating content on social media platforms. The call to action by Jakim to involve the MCMC is a step towards ensuring that such content is scrutinized and appropriate measures are taken. It also serves as a reminder of the need for responsible use of social media and adherence to ethical standards in online communications.

In conclusion, Jakim’s decision to report the offending TikTok video to the MCMC highlights the importance of upholding Islamic values of respectful dialogue and proper conduct. The response from Minister Mohd Na’im Mokhtar reiterates the need for courteous expression of differing opinions and the role of authorities in maintaining the integrity of public discourse on social media platforms.
