The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) in a statement today announced the immediate recall of several imported food products with the Indonesian Halal certification, as they contain traces of porcine (pig DNA) after tests.
The recall follows an announcement by Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPJ), as a joint investigation with the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) found traces of porcine DNA in 11 batches of 9 food products in the country.

In the statement, JAKIM director-general Dato’ Dr Sirajuddin bin Suhaimee asserted that the affected products may compromise Halal standards in Malaysia.
He further urged importers to contact the agency to arrange for their removal from the market, stressing,
“Protecting the rights of Muslim consumers and maintaining the integrity of our Halal certification system are top priorities,”
Sirajuddin added that JAKIM is collaborating with the State Islamic Religious Councils (MAIN) and the State Islamic Department (JAIN) to monitor and inspect any flagged products that may have reached the Malaysian market.

BPJPH and BPOM found that 9 batches out of 7 products were found to have Halal certification, while 2 batches from 2 products were uncertified.

Accordingly, JAKIM is urging consumers in Malaysia to report sightings of the affected items through JAKIM’s complaint portal here.
