JAKIM will work with state religious authorities to summon a Malaysian individual who reportedly joined the Miss Equality World 2026 pageant in Thailand.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) will summon the individual who allegedly took part in the Miss Equality World 2026 competition in Thailand, following reports circulating on social media recently
JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the department would work with state Islamic religious authorities and relevant agencies to call in the individual, based on existing laws and regulations.
JAKIM expressed concern over the reported participation of a Malaysian in the competition, saying it was regrettable and had caused public concern.
“Such conduct clearly goes against religious values and human nature and is also contrary to the country’s laws,” he said in a statement today.
He said JAKIM and state Islamic religious authorities would not tolerate efforts to normalise such conduct.
A video shared on TikTok showed an individual, believed to be a man, wearing women’s clothing while speaking at the competition, prompting online criticism.
