Tenom: State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar wants the 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) Campaign to be extended to the village level to foster patriotism and encourage more people to fly the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flag in conjunction with National Month celebrations.
He said the initiative was important to ensure the community continued to appreciate the meaning of independence and recognise the long struggle undertaken by the country, which has enabled Malaysians today to enjoy life in a peaceful and harmonious environment.
“We want the spirit of independence to continue at the village level by holding campaigns to encourage the community to fly the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flag.
“This is important to remind us that the process of achieving independence was a long journey that has enabled us to enjoy a peaceful and harmonious life today,” he said after joining the 2026 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) Campaign Walkabout Programme for Tenom District at Malleh Square, Tenom town, Monday.
During the programme organised by the Tenom District Information Department, the delegation conducted a walkabout by visiting business premises around town to distribute Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags to traders and members of the public.
Jamawi, who is also Melalap Assemblyman, said the State Government welcomed the campaign launched by the Chief Minister on Aug 1.
He also expressed appreciation to civil servants, department heads and community leaders who attended and contributed towards the success of the programme despite the rain.
“I thank all the civil servants who attended this morning. Despite the rain, it did not dampen our spirit to come together and make this campaign a success,” he said.
He said this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day theme, “Malaysia Madani: Prosperity Shared”, should be translated through the spirit of unity and love for the country so that prosperity could continue to be enjoyed by all Malaysians, particularly in Sabah and Tenom.
Also present were Tenom District Officer Alexander Liew, Ketua Daerah OKK Tusip Tulas, Tenom District Council Executive Officer Mumin Amsah, department heads and local leaders.
