Jana Wibawa trial: Muhyiddin's corruption case to start Sept 17

FORMER prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's corruption trial related to the Jana Wibawa financial scandal will begin in September, reported The New Straits Times.

Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi has set 11 hearing days - Sept 17 to 19, Oct 6 to 8, Nov 26 to 27, and Jan 13 to 15 next year.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin said the prosecution is expected to call 30 witnesses including a minister during the trial.

"Among the witnesses include Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and business tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary," he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, the court allowed Parti Pribumi Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to temporarily retrieve his passport from today until March 3 for travel to Belgium.

On March 10, 2023, Muhyiddin was charged with using his position to obtain bribes amounting to RM232.5 million from three companies namely Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, and Mamfor Sdn Bhd as well as Datuk Azman Yusoff for the party.

He allegedly committed the offences at the Prime Minister's Office, Bangunan Perdana Putra, Federal Government Administration Centre in Putrajaya between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021.

On April 18 last year, Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman, filed an application to quash the four charges under Section 23 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act. – February 18, 2025
