
Kota Kinabalu: Women still face challenges such as low wages, lack of social support and exposure to domestic violence despite their significant contributions, said Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang.
She said many struggle to access welfare benefits and entrepreneurship programmes, limiting their opportunities for financial independence and personal wellbeing.
“To address these issues, we call on the relevant ministries to take urgent action on the following measures: Enhancing social protection – provide a stronger safety net for women by subsidising the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) and the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SESS). This will ensure that self-employed and informal sector workers, many of whom are women, have access to essential protections like healthcare and maternity benefits.
