  • The tremor occurred 18 kilometres west of Sarabetsu on Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island, at a depth of 81 kilometres.
  • The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) confirmed no damage or casualties, and no tsunami advisory was issued.
  • This earthquake followed a 7.7 magnitude offshore quake a week prior, which had prompted an advisory for a higher risk of a mega-quake.
  • The JMA clarified that Monday's quake was outside this specific mega-quake warning zone, and the special awareness week will conclude as planned.
