Japanese steakhouse Nikuya Tanaka has announced the opening of its first international outpost in Singapore. For the uninitiated, this steakhouse was crowned Japan’s No.1 steak restaurant in 2024 and 2025, and World’s No.27 by the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants.
Helmed by third-generation meat master chef Satoru Tanaka, this steakhouse’s flagship in Ginza is loved for its kappo-style dining that’s rooted in Japan’s deepest culinary traditions.
Affectionately known as “boss”, chef Tanaka upholds an 80-year family legacy that’s dedicated to Japanese Wagyu. Chef Tanaka grew up in the world of livestock — having his formal training in meat cutting at 10, the meat specialist has spent decades mastering Wagyu.

This steakhouse puts the spotlight on purebred Tajima Wagyu. Accounting for less than 0.1 per cent of Japanese beef, Tajima Wagyu is prized for its high degree of marbling, which results in succulent and tender meat. At Nikuya Tanaka, chef Tanaka personally selects female cattle that have been raised for over 35 months. These cattle are prepared using minimalist techniques, including binchotan charcoal grilling and sashimi style.
The local outpost will feature a 10-seat counter and a private dining room, all complete with warm lighting and artisanal finishes. Here, quality ingredients and minimalist techniques continue to take center stage, allowing the Wagyu’s natural flavours to do all the talking.
Anticipate plates like the tender Beef Tataki that have been seared over binchotan charcoal. The Kobe Wagyu Steak is another standout, featuring Wagyu that has been evenly cooked until rich and tender. Beyond meat, look forward to the Chilled Noodles, presented in a stunning hand-carved ice bowl.
