Firefighting operations at forest fires in Sri Aman and Daro, Sarawak, will resume today, with about 95 hectares still needing to be extinguished.
KUCHING: Firefighting operations at forest fires in Sri Aman and Daro, which were respectively reported yesterday, will resume today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the first fire involved a forest area along Jalan Kejatau-Lingga, Sri Aman, covering approximately 50 hectares.
It said that of the area, about 20 hectares had been extinguished, while the remaining 30 hectares were yet to be put out.
Meanwhile, the second fire occurred at Kampung Kut, Daro, involving an area of approximately 75 hectares.
“About 10 hectares of the area had been extinguished, while the remaining 65 hectares were yet to be put out,” the department said.
Sarawak is currently experiencing hot and dry weather as well as transboundary haze, with 11 areas recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings this morning.
Based on the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the areas were Serian (189), Samarahan (170), Kuching (166), Bintulu (159), Samalaju (156), Mukah (154), Sibu (154), Sarikei (153), Sri Aman (152), Miri (137), and the Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP) (116).
