JD Vance’s cousin has slammed the US vice president for allowing the “belittling” of Volodymyr Zelensky during his disastrous Oval Office meeting with Donald Trump last month.

In his first interview with a UK newspaper, Nate Vance, a former US marine currently volunteering on the frontline alongside Ukrainian forces, told The Independent of his anger at the White House “ambush” of President Zelensky.

“There was a journalist giving the president of a nation a hard time,” he told World Affairs Editor Sam Kiley, referring to Republican reporter Brian Glenn asking the Ukraine leader why he hadn’t worn a suit to meet Trump. “That guy needs to shut the f*** up.”
