A MAN suffered acid burns covering 11 per cent of his body after being attacked at a petrol station in Jeniang, Gurun, on Friday.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, said officers from Gurun Police Station received a call at 3.15 a.m. from a woman reporting that the 36-year-old victim had been assaulted with acid at the location.
“The victim, who works in a canteen, sustained burns to his face, neck, and chest,” he said.
Police later identified and apprehended a 36-year-old suspect, employed as a driver, on Saturday morning.
“The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, and preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was motivated by jealousy,” Hanyan added in a statement today.
The suspect is expected to be remanded this morning to assist with the investigation, while the victim is receiving treatment at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital. - January 26, 2026
